How to Format hard drive windows 98.
To format a hard drive with windows 98, you must first reboot your computer
with a windows 98 boot disk.
To get windows 98 boot disk.
From Start, go settings then control panel. Once in control panel,
Click the add remove programs icon. Then Click the startup disk tab on the top right.
Have an empty 1.44 MB floppy disk ready. Note: if the disk has data on it, it will be erased.
Insert disk into the disk drive, then click create disk button.
After starting computer with your windows 98 boot disk.
you will eventually get to a A: prompt.
When you get to the A: promt,
If the drive you are formating is C,
(if not substitute C for the letter of the drive your are formatting)
type in Format C:, or use the "S" switch to make the disk bootable. ( eg. A:>format C:/s)
Press Enter and you will get this message:
WARNING: ALL DATA ON NON-REMOVABLE DISK DRIVE C: WILL BE LOST!
Proceed with Format (Y/N)? press y. Your computer will then format your disk. When it is done you will be
asked to enter a Volume label ( 11 characters, Enter for none)? This is where you can name your
drive if you want.
